Where To Find A Christmas Tree In Montgomery County: 2024 Guide
People in Montgomery Co. who prefer fresh-cut Christmas trees shouldn't have trouble finding them this holiday season, according to growers.

BETHESDA, MD — If you’re planning to put up a live Christmas tree this year, it’s a good idea to scope out what will be available from Montgomery County-area tree growers.
There are more than 16,000 Christmas tree farms in the United States, stretching over 292,050 acres, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Larger tree farms control about 75 percent of the supply, but if you’re interested in supporting a local business this holiday season, here are some places to chop or pick out a tree within driving distance of your house:
- Butler's Orchard: The Butler Family, 22222 Davis Mill Road, Germantown, 301-428-0444. Through Dec. 24, Butler’s Orchard offers customers two options for Douglas and Canaan firs: Cut your own or pre-cut trees. Cut your own trees are by reservation only and available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., last entry at 4:30 p.m. (noon-6 p.m. on Fridays, last entry at 4:30 p.m.) All trees are $89.95 plus tax; the fee includes shaking, bailing, and the staff tieing the tree to your vehicle. Bring a saw from home. Pre-cut trees: Available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday in the Farm Park: Free Admission Saturday-Sunday: $5/car. Trees are individually priced by variety and height, will be tagged. Santa will visit Butler’s from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15. Admission: $5/car.
- J. R. Wright & Sons: 12621 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring; phone: (301) 622-2119. For a freshly cut, reasonably priced selection of wreaths, roping, and trees, J. R. Wright & Sons is where you’ll want to be. Serving the area for more than 40 years, this nursery and garden is marked by a staff that is warm, personable, and ready to assist its customers. While you’re picking out the perfect tree, also shop some of J. R. Wright & Son’s farmers market produce for ingredients on your holiday grocery list.
- Naughty Pine Nursery: 18200 Elmer School Road, Dickerson; Phone: (301) 842-7075. Email: office@npnursery.com. Naughty Pine Nursery has a selection of Douglas Fir, Blue Spruce, and Norway Spruce trees that are split into cost categories by height, allowing you to chop down a tree at your desired price point. Recent data from the American Christmas Tree Association’s 2024 Consumer Report shows 99 percent of survey respondents intend to display at least one Christmas tree in their homes this year, and among them, 22 percent will opt for a live tree.
