$100K Win On Scratch-Off Ticket Will Help Bowie Grandpa Set Up College Funds For Grandkids

A Bowie man recently won $100K on a scratch-off ticket and plans to set up college funds for his grandkids and install new windows.

BOWIE, MD — A Maryland Lottery scratch-off player from Bowie claimed a high-dollar prize for the third time a couple of weeks ago at Maryland Lottery headquarters - and he says he’s still hoping for one more.

“Now I’m looking for a $1 million or $2 million win, then I’m done,” he said.

The lotto winner added that he has already identified the store where he believes his next big winner will be purchased, but he’s keeping that information to himself, he told lottery officials.

The Prince George’s County resident’s most recent win was a $100,000 prize on the $10 game MONOPOLY X50 and it came on a single ticket he bought at Forbes BP at 9701 Annapolis Road in Lanham. Typically, he buys two or three tickets in a row and takes them home to scratch.

“I like to play the game,” he said, noting that simply scratching the prize check and scanning to see if it’s a winner deprives him of the enjoyment of the game.

For his latest win, he borrowed $10 from his wife and used it to purchase a lone ticket — which proved to be a big winner. He says his wife made mention of the prize money belonging to her since she’s the one who paid for the ticket, but he told her, “You know I’m going to split it with you anyway.”

In addition to giving half of the proceeds to his wife, he’ll be using part of his winnings to have new cabinets installed in his kitchen and new windows throughout his house. His grandchildren also will receive a little help to pay for their future college educations.

The last time the Bowie man was a big winner was in 2022 when he landed a $250,000 top prize on the $250,000 Gold Rush ticket. He used part of that prize to buy a truck, which he said now is used by his two grown children.

“I have always done good stuff,” he said of using his winnings, which also include a $100,000 prize a number of years ago.

Forbes BP will not only get a banner, but also a $1,000 bonus for selling this latest winning ticket.
