LAUREL, MD — Three Prince George's County police officers fired their service weapons at a suspect in Laurel who eventually fled the area and disappeared, police say.

Police are now looking for 20-year-old Alpha Mansaray of Savage in relation to this incident as well as for a prior warrant, Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said in press conference.

It all started when a uniformed officer in a marked police car approached Mansaray at around 3:05 p.m. on Thursday due to reports that he had been dealing drugs on multiple occasions this summer, Stawinski said.

When Mansaray saw the officer, he put his vehicle into drive and moved toward the officer, who discharged several rounds thinking he was going to be hit, Stawinski said.

The vehicle then fled in the opposite direction and then a second police car got behind him. Stawinski said Mansaray got into a collision with police officers as he tried to escape, and eventually he was able to lead police on a chase into Anne Arundel County and then Howard County, where officers lost sight of him.

Police found his vehicle, which had a "small amount of blood" and broken windows, he said, however he noted that police do not believe the blood was consistent with a gunshot injury. The suspect has not turned up at any local hospitals.

A total of three officers fired shots during the incident, Stawinski said. He added that it was unclear if the suspect had a gun or fired shots himself.

One round penetrated the door of a nearby residence, but there were no injuries.
