Bowie Man Charged In Friend's Fatal Shooting During Argument

A Bowie man has been charged in connection to a friend's fatal shooting that happened while they were arguing, Prince George's Police say.

BOWIE, MD — A 58-year-old Bowie man has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of a Lanham man Sunday night.

According to the Prince George's Police Department, on Sunday, Sept. 7, around 6:30 p.m., police officers were called to the 4300 block of Rockport Lane for a report of a shooting. They found 59-year-old Benjamin Francis outside with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, Herbert Keith Mason Jr., shot Francis during an argument and that both men knew each other. Officers took Mason into custody at the scene. He has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
