Child Dies In Suitland House Fire, 2 Firefighters Injured
A 9-year-old boy died in an early morning house fire Tuesday and two Prince George's firefighters were injured, officials report.
SUITLAND, MD — A 9-year-old boy has died and two firefighters were injured in a house fire that broke out shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday in Suitland.
According to the Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department, crews were called to the two-story, single family home located in the 5800 block of Auth Road around 1:43 a.m. The fire had spread through the home by the time firefighters arrived.
The boy was pulled from the second floor of the home and taken to Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., in critical condition. He died at the hospital an hour later, the fire department posted on X.

Authorities have not released the names of the child or his mother.
Assistant Fire Chief Carroll Spriggs said the boy was removed through a window on the second floor, according to NBC Washington.

He also told the TV station that a neighbor tried to wake up the mother and child after noticing the fire, and the neighbor helped the mother out of a window on the first floor of the house.
Two firefighters were taken to the hospital for evaluation, as well.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
No working smoke detectors were found inside the home, the fire department said.
