Driver Flees Scene After Fatally Hitting Bicyclist In New Carrollton

The driver involved in a fatal hit and run involving a bicyclist has been arrested, according to Prince George's Police.

NEW CARROLLTON, MD — Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed a bicyclist Thursday in New Carrollton.

The incident happened July 17 around 7:55 p.m. in the 8400 block of Annapolis Road. New Carrollton police officers were called to the area and found 55-year-old Tara Carter of Lanham in the road. She was taken to a hospital where she later died, according to Prince George's Police.

The driver who hit Carter did not remain on the scene, but a witness and surveillance video helped identified the driver, who was located shortly afterward by New Carrollton police officers, the department reported.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the involved driver hit Carter while traveling eastbound on Annapolis Road. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
