Fire in Bowie Home Causes $250K in Damage

Two residents escaped burning home safely, due to a smoke alarm, according to Prince George's County Fire and EMS.

BOWIE, MD — A fire in an upstairs bedroom caused significant damage to a Bowie home Thursday morning, according to Prince George's County Fire and EMS. The residents were able to escape safely.

At 11 a.m., firefighters responded to several 911 calls regarding a house fire in the 6400 block of Grendel Place, according to fire and EMS spokesperson Mark Brady. They found the three-story home with fire showing from the second floor and attic.

"It required about 15 minutes to extinguish the bulk of the fire," according to a statement by Brady. "Fire investigators believe the fire started in a top floor bedroom and the cause is undetermined."

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. A smoke alarm alerted the residents to the fire, according to Brady. The fire loss is estimated at $250,000.

An adult female and teen-aged son are displaced and receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
