Girlfriend Charged In Man's Fatal Shooting: PGPD

A 33-year-old Laurel woman has been charged in connection to the fatal shooting of her 48-year-old boyfriend, also of Laurel, police say.

LAUREL, MD — Police have charged a Laurel woman in connection to the fatal shooting of her boyfriend.

On Sept. 20 around 10:45 p.m., Prince George's police officers were called to a home located in the 13400 block of Finsbury Court for a report of a shooting. They found 48-year-old James McGruder III of Laurel with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Detectives identified McGruder's girlfriend, 33-year-old Latisha Smith of Laurel, as the suspect in his death, the police department stated. Their investigation revealed that Smith shot McGruder during an argument. She has been charged with first-degree murder and related charges. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status, the police department stated.
