Greenbelt Man Charged After Ramming Vehicle Into Police Cars

A Greenbelt man has been charged after police say he rammed his vehicle at a high rate of speed into police at government agency.

FORT MEADE, MD — A 23-year-old Greenbelt man has been charged in connection to the assault of federal law enforcement officers after police say he rammed his vehicle into two marked National Security Agency vehicles, injuring one of the officers.

The incident happened Sept. 24 when an NSA police officer at a checkpoint saw a vehicle driven by Amir Phillip Wilson approach the Fort Meade NSA campus. The officer saw Wilson drive the vehicle through the checkpoint without presenting the credentials required to enter the protected property. Law enforcement attempted to stop Wilson, but he accelerated to upwards of 40 to 50 miles an hour in an attempt to evade the officers, according to the the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office.

During the pursuit, Wilson’s vehicle hit two marked NSA police vehicles responding to the scene, injuring one of the officers. When Wilson his the second police vehicle at a high rate of speed, his vehicle careened into a concrete retaining wall, where it came to a stop. Law enforcement then took Wilson into custody, officials noted.

Wilson has been scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.
