Heat Advisory Prompts Closure Of Some County Facilities, Movie Night Still On
Prince George's County officials have closed some county facilities due to the heat advisory in place Friday, but movie night will continue.
PRINCE GEORGE's COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Prince George's County until 8 p.m. Friday. Several county facilities have closed while tonight's outdoor movies will proceed as planned.
The forecasted heat index, factoring in humidity, is expected to exceed 105°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illness and impacting air quality, county officials noted.
Due to the excessive heat, all artificial and synthetic athletic fields will be closed Friday. However, community centers and pools will remain open, with designated facilities serving as cooling centers during regular operating hours. For a full list of those designated cooling centers and indoor and outdoor pools, visit pgparks.com.
