Heat Advisory Won't Cancel Outdoor Concerts In Prince George's County

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The concerts scheduled for Thursday night will continue as planned despite the heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service, officials said Thursday.

The heat advisory will be in effect through 8 p.m. tonight. The heat index has been forecast to reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

However, all artificial and synthetic athletic fields will be closed today. Community centers and pools will remain open and designated facilities will serve as cooling centers, officials said.

Concerts continue as scheduled

• Liquid A will perform at Watkins Regional Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
• Walker Redds Project will perform at Cosca Regional Park from 6 to 8 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to take the following precautions at the concert, per the parks and rec department:

• Bring water and stay hydrated throughout the event
• Seek shade whenever possible and take breaks if feeling overheated
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and sun protection
• Use sunscreen with SPF 30+ and reapply as needed
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration
• Consider bringing a small personal fan, umbrella, or cooling towel

All indoor and outdoor pools will remain open and operate on their regular schedules. Advanced reservations are recommended to secure entry. Walk-ins are welcome while space is available.
