Jewelry Store Robbery Suspect Sought By Hyattsville Police
Hyattsville Police are searching for the man they say robbed a jewelry store. They also reported additional break-ins.
HYATTSVILLE, MD — Police are searching for a man they say robbed a jewelry store in Hyattsville Aug. 8.
According to the Hyattsville Police Department, on Aug. 8 around 7:12 p.m., police were alerted to a robbery unfolding at a business located in The Mall In Prince George's. Officers spoke with employees and reviewed the store's security video, which showed a man walking into the store and asking to look at jewelry as if he intended to buy something, police reported.
When the store employee placed a display tray containing jewelry on the counter, the man grabbed it and walked off. As he left the store, the man tossed the display tray but kept the jewelry. The store employee followed the man and tried to stop him, but the man turned around, placed his hand under his shirt near his waist and threatened to stab the store employee, police learned.

The suspect then left the mall and got into a gray Ford Escape. While the vehicle was later recovered, the suspect has not been found and the investigation is ongoing, police reported.
In related news, Hyattsville Police received two additional reports of break-ins on Aug 8. One happened at 2:50 a.m., which was captured on security cameras. Video footage showed a suspect entering a business and looking around, but taking nothing, the police department shared. No additional information was provided about the incident.

Then at 8:31 a.m. Aug. 8, police officers were called to the 3000 block of Hamilton Street for a report of a burglary. The owner told police that a suspect entered the business's rear door, grabbed cash and some products, then took off, police stated.
On Aug. 5 around 12:02 a.m., security at The Prince George's Mall called police to report a man walking around inside the mall. While officers were on their way to the mall, security informed them that the man had left the building and was walking across the parking lot toward East-West Highway carrying a large suitcase. Officers searched the area but could not find the suspect. Security video footage showed the suspect pulling on doors and peering behind kiosk counters, but didn't take anything, according to police.
