BRANDYWINE, MD — A man has died after he was struck while riding his bike in Brandywine early Wednesday morning by a driver who fled the scene, police say.

Police closed McKendree Road between Accokeek Road and Brinton Way after the collision, which happened at around 6:20 a.m., Prince George's County Police tweeted.

"[A]n adult male pedestrian was discovered unresponsive laying on the ground beside the roadway," police said. "He was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead."

Police believe he was riding his bike northbound on McKendree Road when he was struck from behind by the vehicle, which did not stop and "most likely has front end damage," police say.
