Man Shoots Himself During Home Eviction

Prince George's County sheriff's deputies overseeing a home eviction in Laurel discovered a man had shot himself inside the house.

LAUREL, MD — A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after police say he shot himself during an eviction.

While Prince George's County sheriff's deputies were overseeing the scheduled eviction at a home located in the 500 block of Main Street in Laurel, officers heard gunshots from inside. They backed away from the home and called the person in the home on a cell phone, officials said.

The Prince George's sheriff's office's specialized service team was called to the scene. Deputies entered the home and found a man with self-inflicted injuries and a gun nearby. Deputies started first aid then EMTs arrived and took him to the hospital, officials said.

The sheriff's office said that he was listed in critical but stable condition as of Nov. 5.

The Laurel Police Department stated that the individual had experienced a mental health crisis and "caused harm to himself."

The investigation remains active, the sheriff's office stated.
