Maryland Tax Preparer Pleads Guilty To Filing False Tax Returns
Elvis Ghomsi, 44, of Prince George's County was sentenced Tuesday in Anne Arundel County circuit court.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced Tuesday that Elvis Ghomsi, 44, of Glen Dale in Price George's County was sentenced in Anne Arundel County circuit court on two counts of willfully filing a false Maryland tax return.
Judge Stacy W. McCormack sentenced Ghomsi to probation before judgment with a one-year period of probation. As a condition of probation, Ghomsi is prohibited from acting as a tax preparer until he registers with the state, authorities said.
During tax year 2018, Frosh said Ghomsi prepared tax returns, for a fee, for numerous Maryland residents. In those returns, Ghomsi added false deductions which created increased tax refunds to the victims. Those victims were required to reimburse the state for the inflated returns.
