No Charges Filed In Officer-Involved Shooting Of Armed Man: Attorney General
Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Wednesday that no charges will be filed against the officers involved in an April shooting.
OXON HILL, MD — Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Wednesday that he will not seek charges in the April 20 fatal officer-involved shooting that happened in Oxon Hill.
On April 20 around 10:15 a.m., officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department were called to the 100 block of St. George Blvd. in Oxon Hill (National Harbor) after receiving a 911 call for a report of a shooting or cutting at that location. Officers found a man with a knife — later identified as 44-year-old Aevon Bucknor, Jr., of Oxon Hill. Even though police officers told Bucknor to drop the knife, he did not comply and moved toward one of the officers. The officer backed away and he and another officer fired their service weapons, hitting Bucknor, police reported.
Bucknor turned and walked several feet before collapsing to the ground, according to the attorney general's office. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Bucknor eventually was linked to a stabbing that happened in the 8300 block of Indian Head Highway at St. George Boulevard & Potomac Passage earlier that day. Officers found a man and woman with critical stab wounds and discovered that the stabbing suspect, later identified as Bucknor, had set fire to their apartment. The police department originally said the stabbing was domestic-related and the suspect knew the victims, according to Patch's previous coverage.

The Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division began investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting and wrapped up its investigation Sept. 16. After completing the investigation and evaluating all available evidence, the Office of the Attorney General determined that the police officers did not commit a crime under Maryland law. Accordingly, the Attorney General has declined to prosecute any of the officers in this case.
