One Killed in Bowie House Fire

The victim was trapped on the second floor of his home Sunday evening, PGFD reports.

A fire killed one man and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage in Bowie, according to the Prince George’s Fire Department.

Firefighters were called around 10 p.m. Dec. 7 and told someone was trapped inside the home, PGFD reports. When an engine arrived in the 13100 block of 11th Street within two minutes, smoke was coming out of the residence.

An unidentified adult male was found trapped on the second floor and was rescued by firefighters. He was suffering from critical burn injuries and was treated by medics on the scene, according to officials. While a helicopter was called to fly the victim to the Burn Unit, his condition quickly deteriorated which caused medics to transport him to a local Trauma Center.

The fire was extinguished and shortly after arriving at the center, the victim passed away from the injuries.

PGFD reports that the fire appears to have been accidental. Two non-working fire alarms and a loss of about $20,000 were found in the home.
