LAUREL, MD — Prince George's County Police say they have suspended an officer without pay after he was accused of domestic violence.

Police arrested Corp. Steven Davis at his home in Laurel on Tuesday on charges of first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a PGPD report.

Police did not release any details about the incident involving Davis, a seven-year veteran and patrol officer who was off duty at the time, the report adds.

"The charges placed against this officer are deeply disturbing to me," PGPD Chief Hank Stawinski said in a statement. "When I was made aware of this arrest, the officer’s police powers were immediately suspended. It saddens me to bring this news to my community, but rest assured, the actions of one do not represent the actions of the almost 1700 Prince George’s County police officers who serve and protect us every single day.

"To the victims of domestic violence, I urge you to speak out," he added. "We will listen, we will act, and those responsible will be brought to justice."
