OXON HILL, MD — Police are seeking a van that they say struck and killed a man from Upper Marlboro in Oxon Hill on Labor Day.

Police were called to the 5500 block of St. Barnabas Road at around 8:50 p.m. Sept. 2 to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian, and found 48-year-old Gilbert Butler suffering from critical injuries, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.

"The preliminary investigation reveals the victim was in the southbound lanes of St. Barnabas Road, possibly having fallen or was laying in the roadway, when he was struck by a van," the report states. "The victim was not in a crosswalk. The striking van did not stay on the scene. Moments later, a second car struck the victim. That driver remained on the scene.
