'Road Rage Homicide' Arrest Made: Police
A Glenn Dale man has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old woman driving on the Capital Beltway.
COLLEGE PARK, MD — A Glenn Dale man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a woman who was driving on the Capital Beltway that police have described as a "road rage homicide."
On May 3, 2024, around 10:45 p.m., Maryland State Police troopers from the Forestville Barrack received a report of a vehicle off the road in the area of southbound I-495 just before Landover Road. When troopers arrived, a gray Nissan Versa was found in a ditch with the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Nyah Hairston, in the driver’s seat. She was unresponsive.
Troopers broke the car window and freed Nyah from the vehicle. EMS responders give first aid to Nyah on the scene and took her to the University of Maryland Capital Region Trauma Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Information learned through the investigation led investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit to the suspected shooter, identified as Dominec Proctor, 28. State police obtained an arrest warrant and charged Proctor with Nyah’s death. Proctor has been charged with first-degree murder and currently is being held without bond in Virginia on unrelated charges.
Investigators continue to search for information about the road-rage deaths of Charles Marks and Delonte Hicks. Police ask the public to share any information that could lead to an arrest in these cases and become eligible for up to $30,000 in reward money per case.

- On Jan. 30, 2022, Charles Harrison Marks, IV, 42, of Pasadena was the victim of a fatal shooting on I-95 in Howard County. Marks was the driver of a white cargo van traveling northbound on I-95 in the area of Route 100 at 3:40 p.m. when he was shot.
- On March 19, 2022, Delonte Hicks, 29, of Washington, D.C., was shot while driving a tow truck in Prince George’s County. Hicks was traveling on eastbound Route 50 at Route 410/Veterans Parkway. At approximately 4:45 p.m., police believe Hicks was exchanging words with the driver of a Hyundai Sonata when he pulled out a weapon and fired into the vehicle, shooting Hicks. The gunman continued eastbound on Route 50.
