Suspect Arrested After Homemade Firebombs Left At Fire Station: Police

A suspect has been arrested in connection to the discovery of firebombs left outside a Capitol Heights fire station last month.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — An arrest has been made in the case of a man accused of putting firebombs near Fire Station 805 in Capitol Heights on Aug 13, Prince George's County authorities said.

On Aug. 30, Prince George's County police arrested Slater Chaia, 36, of District Heights, who matched the description of the suspect wanted in the case. Chaia was spotted across the street from the fire station by an on-duty fire department employee, according to a news release.

Patrol units from Prince George’s County Police were able to locate Chaia and take him into custody without incident, according to the fire department.

No one was injured in the incident.

Chaia has been taken to the Department of Corrections, where he is being held without bond, according to the police department.

Chaia has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Destructive Device- Felony (up to $250,000 fine and 25 years)
  • Possession of Incendiary Material with Intent to Create a Destructive Device- Felony (up to
  • $250,000 fine and 25 years)
  • Reckless Endangerment- Misdemeanor (up to $5,000 fine).
