Woman Standing On The Beltway In PG County Struck, Killed: Police

A woman has died after being hit on I-495 in Prince George's County, police say.

TEMPLE HILLS, MD — A woman has died after being struck in I-495 while standing in the roadway in Temple Hills at around midnight on Monday, police say.

Maryland State Police troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on the Beltway in the area of Allentown Road, and determined that an as-yet unidentified woman was standing in the highway in the second lane from the left, according to an MSP report.

"Troopers at the scene report there were no disabled vehicles in the vicinity of the crash to indicate the victim had been driving a vehicle that had become disabled," the report states. "Although the female had an ID in her purse, attempts to make a positive identification have been unsuccessful. The victim's body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy."

Police believe a GMC Yukon struck her, and the driver remained on scene. The driver told investigators he tried to avoid the woman but couldn't, police said, adding that no charges have been filed.

Police believe the woman was 40 years old. She was declared dead at the scene. The collision caused some road closures in the area.
