A Good Day for Broadneck Wrestling

The Broadneck High Bruins finished third at the Anne Arundel County Wrestling Championships on Saturday, as Collin Harrell and Dan Hawkins each won titles in their weight classes.

South River took the county title Saturday with 190.5 points, well ahead of second-place finisher Old Mill at 159 points. Broadneck finished third with 143.5 points, just ahead of Arundel’s 139.

The competition was held at Chesapeake High in Pasadena.

Harrell, a junior, won the championship at 121 pounds with a 5-0 decision over Josh Perren of South River. His earlier victories included a 15-1 decision and a pin in the semi-final match. 

Hawkins, a freshman, put together a string of close decisions including an early round 8-5 victory over top seeded James Prescott of Glen Burnie to capture the 173 pound title.

Connor Joyce of Broadneck placed third at 105 pounds; Dylan Edwards won 4th at 114 pounds; Chris Evans got 3rd place at 132 pounds; Mike Bohlman won 3rd place at 147 pounds; and Brady Ruppert won 3rd at 162 pounds.

The following Broadneck varsity wrestlers also placed in their weight categories:  Ben Small, Sam Oldale, Ian Marinacci, and Dallas Truelove.

Broadneck’s JV wrestlers also had an impressive showing in the District V JV qualifer brackets. First place championships were earned by Rowen Belch at 103 pounds, AJ Polsinelli at 112 pounds and Alex Steinkonig at 125 pounds. Bryan Wand, Kevin Religioso, Grant Cole, Max Junkins, John Walker, Shane Middleton, Alex Gipson, Rickey Ensor, Matthew Jacobson, Zach Schalge,  and Joe Mintz also placed in their weight categories.
