A Rain Barrel Could be Handy this Summer

Let the rain work for you and your garden by investing in a rain barrel before summer hits.

Looming clouds have you thinking of rain?

With summer fast approaching, now is the perfect time to think about investing in a rain barrel.

These barrels can save you money by reducing your water bill and help the environment by reducing water runoff to local waterways, said Cape St. Claire Garden Club member Audrey Lengbeyer. The collected rain can be used to water your plants, or any other number of uses, she said.

The Cape St. Claire Garden Club is offering rain barrels priced at $95. The barrels can hold up to 55 gallons of water, and are created from used, food-grade barrels. Each is equipped with brass spigots to attach garden hoses, and a screen to keep the bugs out.

These barrels can be preordered online and will be available for pick up May 18 in Cape St. Claire. Payment is due upon pickup.

For each rain barrel sold, $20 goes toward the Goshen Farm Preservation Society—a nonprofit that exists to restore the historic Goshen Farm and its surrounding property in Cape St. Claire for future generations.
