Get Out: Labor Day Weekend 2011

Fun, food, and football for this Labor Day weekend.

It's a three-day celebration of the end of the summer season, and there is plenty to do this Labor Day weekend. Here are just a few options to consider.

1)

When/Where:  Fri., Sept. 2, 9 p.m., 550 Ritchie Hwy., Severna Park (Park Plaza Shopping Center).

Why Go?:  See the family-friendly movie "Up." Bring blanket or lawn chairs for seating.

Pricing:  Free.

2) 

When/Where:  Sun., Sept. 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., 600 Quiet Waters Park Rd., Annapolis.

Why Go:  The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert of classics and other orchestral favorites. Alcohol is not allowed. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged.

Pricing:  Admission to the park during concert times is free.                

3)  The Maryland State Fair

When/Where:  Fri., Sat., Sun., Mon., noon to 10 p.m. at the State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

Why Go:  Featuring one of the biggest midways in the state, with carnival rides, games, food, concerts and all sorts of 4-H/FFA and business exhibits and demonstrations.

Pricing:  $3-$6-$8. Purchase ride tickets, food and beverages separately. Limited onsite parking ($3).

4)  U.S. Navy Football

When/Where:  The Navy football team opens its season at 3:30 p.m. on Sat. against Delaware at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.

Why Go:  Come out and support Navy Football Coach and Broadneck Coach Ken Niumatalolo for the season opener.

Pricing:  Game tickets are $12 (standing room only, grassy hill, ages 12 and under), $20 (standing room only, grassy hill) or $30 (reserved seat). tickets@usna.edu

5)  MD Rennaissance Festival

When/Where:  Weekends thru Oct. 23, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Crownsville Road in Crownsville.

Why Go: The Maryland Renaissance Festival returns for its 35th season with new attractions and more varied entertainment, additional crafters and an expanded menu. Patrons welcome to wear costumes suitable for the time period. 

Pricing:  Adults 16-up $19; seniors $16; children 7 to 15 $9; two-day pass $28.
