Police Arrest Annapolis Man in Connection with Cyclist Hit and Run
William Christopher Kirby was arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on July 26 on East College Parkway and Bay Head Road.

Anne Arundel County Police have arrested and charged an Annapolis man with multiple traffic violations .
William Christopher Kirby, 25, of the 300 block of Forest Beach Road in Annapolis, has been charged with multiple violations, including:
- Failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury;
- Failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury;
- Failure to stop after an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle or property;
- Failure of a driver involved in an accident to render reasonable assistance to an injured person; and
- Failure of a driver in an accident to report bodily injury/attended vehicle damage to the nearest police station.
According to police, during the July 26 incident, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on East College Parkway at Bayhead Road when he was struck by a vehicle. The 50-year-old male cyclist was struck from behind and thrown to the shoulder of the road, and the driver fled the scene. The cyclist was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

A witness provided investigators with a photo taken after the bicyclist was struck, leading police to search for a late model (2007-2009) Hyundai Elantra with visible shatter damage to the passenger windshield and fog light, according to police.
A police press release said that officers then received a tip that the damaged vehicle was seen on Forest Beach Road and the driver was Kirby. Officers later located the damaged car at a repair shop in Jessup and retrieved it along with the damaged parts as evidence. Detectives also interviewed a potential passenger of Kirby’s involved in the incident.

Kirby was arrested on Aug. 9 and is currently being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
