Police Collect 351 Pounds of Drugs at Saturday Take Back Events

Saturday's event was part of a nationwide effort to remove unused prescription medications from medicine cabinets.

Saturday's prescription drug take back events in Anne Arundel CountyΒ netted 351 pounds of pharmaceuticals, according to a release issued by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.Β 

The event was held in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and was part of a national effort. County police collected unused, expired and unwanted medications at district stations across the county from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.Β 

Each station was staffed by a police representative and a DEA representative, who were available to answer questions, andΒ to inform the public of the dangers of flushing prescription medications down the toilet. The county health department was also on hand with information on recognizing and treating substance abuse, according to a press release.Β 

Police also used Saturday's event as an opportunity to showcase the new medication drop-off boxes that have been permanently installed in each of the four district stations. The boxes will be available for prescription, and over the counterΒ drug disposal 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the following locations:Β 

  • Southern District Station,Β 35 Stepneys Ln., Edgewater
  • Northern District Station,Β 939 Hammonds Ln., Baltimre
  • Eastern District Station,Β 3700 Mountain Rd., Pasadena
  • Western District Station,Β 8273 Telegraph Rd., Odenton
No illegalΒ drugs of any kind will not be accepted for disposal at the drop boxes.Β
