Watch Goats Help With Lake Claire Cleanup
A cleanup by local volunteers hopes to restore access to Lake Claire with years of hard work.
A group of hungry, eco-friendly goats used their natural talents to trim away a reed infestation surrounding Lake Claire during the weekend.
The Sunday morning cleanup, organized by the Friends of Lake Claire, a group of local volunteers, was just one of several similar cleanups planned since November. The group hopes to restore access to the lake, where an infestation of phragmites, a type of reed, have grown up to 12 feet tall, making it impossible to get to the scenic lake.
Eco-Goats, a company based in Davidsonville, lent a few hungry mouths to the volunteer effort on Sunday. The company's president, Brian Knox, said he uses the goats throughout the county, and hopes to put them to work at Lake Claire more in the future.

Volunteers weren't just clearing out phragmites on Sunday, either. They also were busy planting new vegetation in the area to help replace what the phragmites had taken away from the lake.
The group meets once a month to organize cleanups. If you are interested in pitching in, visit their Facebook group for more information.
