Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:
- At about 2:00 p.m. yesterday, Baltimore County police officers responded to a report of gunfire at a Catonsville home. A man, who police believed was armed, had barricaded himself in the home, located in the 600 block of Orpington Road. The man was described as a "person in crisis" by the police. At about 4:00 p.m. on the same day, the person surrendered himself to police without incident. (Fox News Baltimore)
- Dan Zakai, co-owner of the 818 Market, said the business is on its "last legs" and in debt. Earlier this year, the State Fare owners were supposed to take over the 818 Market, located at 818 Frederick Road in Catonsville, but that deal fell through. As a last attempt to save 818 Market, the owners requested a hardship change in their liquor license. On Monday, the Baltimore County liquor board granted the owners a new "class D" tavern license, so that food will not have to make up the bulk of the business’ sales. Zakai said 818 Market plans to reopen with a smaller workforce and serve a limited menu of burgers and hot dogs. (Baltimore Sun)
- Catonsville High School lacrosse senior goalie and team captain, Brian Ruppel, was named the Baltimore Sun's "Boys Sport Athlete of the Week." Ruppel made 19 saves during the game against Marriotts Ridge on Apr. 27. On Apr. 28, Ruppel made ten saves and five ground balls in the game against Baltimore County rival Dulaney. Catonsville won both games, moving them to 4-0 in the county’s Division I and first place. Ruppel has a 71 percent save rate and only allows 3.3 goals per game. (Baltimore Sun)
