- Baltimore County received the 2023 Gateways for Growth award. According to Giuliana Valencia-Banks, Immigration Affairs Outreach Coordinator with the Office of County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr., the award will help the county build a strong partnership with immigrant communities by helping create equitable programs and policies. - On Jan. 11, Maryland lawmakers will discuss abortion rights, licensing and taxing of recreational marijuana, gun legislation, and more during the 90-day legislative session. House Speaker Adrienne Jones, a Baltimore County Democrat, believes the constitutional amendment to strengthen abortion rights protections will have "better success this year." Jones also said that filling vacancies across state agencies is one of the top issues of the session. (AP News)
- On Friday, Jan. 6, Baltimore County announced the launch of an online water quality dashboard. The dashboard allows the public to review up-to-date chemicals and bacteria levels in their water. The Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (DEPS) collects and analyzes samples from local waterways, the data is then added to the water quality dashboard. (Perry Hall Patch)
