Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:

  1. Baltimore County may ban single-use plastic bags at the checkout counter. On the night of Jan. 3, Councilman Izzy Patoka, a Democrat for District 2, introduced the Baltimore County legislation, Bring Your Own Bag Act. The legislation would ban retailers from offering plastic bags beginning Nov. 1, 2023. Retailers would also have to charge customers, except those who receive food benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, at least 10 cents for paper or reusable bags. (WYPR)
  2. Julian Jones Jr. was re-elected as Baltimore County Council chair for the fourth time in five years. He will be the first in county history to serve a third consecutive term as chair. (Subscription: Baltimore Sun)
  3. Baltimore County's "Winter Restaurant Week" is Friday, Jan. 13 through Jan. 22. Click here for more information and to see participating restaurants. Catonsville restaurants include El Guapo, Farmhouse Greens, and Jennings Cafe. (WMAR 2 News)
