Break for 'Dogs, Drinks at Court

Under the shade trees at Catonsville District Court is The Hotdog Stand, an oasis from the heat Monday where customers bought iced drinks, chips and a Hebrew National frank or two.

Cher McDowel was running her parents' stand on this particular day, and promoted the two types of hotdogs, Polish sausage, candy, numerous sodas and kids' drinks for sale at the stand, 900 Walker Avenue in Catonsville.

The stand is the only place to get food and drink within about a mile.

So, If you're heading to UMBC campus, it's along your route. However, most customers of the stand have court business.
McDowel said she and her parents are very personable, a trait that keeps customers coming back.

What has she learned about the community while working at the stand? A lot about people, she said.

For example, "People do not like being on probation," she said. But many do like hotdogs.

The stand is open from 10 a.m. to about 6 p.m. weekdays. See more photos from The Hot Dog Stand.
