- Ali M. Kalarestaghi, a Catonsville attorney, will serve a six-month probationary period for giving legal advice to a prospective commercial tenant without disclosing his ownership stake in the property. The prospective tenant, Catonsville Eye Associates LLC, wanted to move to a new location at 6567 Baltimore National Pike and used Kalarestaghi as its attorney. But Kalarestaghi did not inform them that he owned the property with his father and brother through MAH Mountain LLC. Maryland’s Supreme Court ruled that Kalarestaghi can continue practicing law during the probationary period in lieu of the proposed 60-day suspension. (Maryland Daily Record)
- Walt Pesterfield, the director of corrections for Baltimore County, addressed the conditions of juveniles in the Baltimore County Detention Center (BCDC) outlined in a Mar. 6 letter from Deborah St. Jean, the director of the Juvenile Protection Division for the Maryland Public Defender’s Office. St. Jean said the children were locked up in flood-prone, rodent-infested cells for 23 hours a day with little access to mental health and medical services. Pesterfield said, "in many cases, conditions were not found to be as described" but the county had "identified some areas for improvement." The Baltimore County Council will tour the facility and interview jail management. The county's investigation is expected to conclude in the next 30 days. Del. Eric Ebersole, a Democrat who chairs the Baltimore County House delegation, said he will also tour the facility. (Subscription: Baltimore Sun)
- On Wednesday, Mar. 15, three Romanian nationals were arrested in connection with a string of burglaries and thefts in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Stefan Chiciu, 43, Anisoara Nistor, 41, and Ana Maria Velcu, 33, were all arrested in Frederick and accused of being a part of the broader burglary operation, which includes the Baltimore County area. The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is working with multiple police departments, including Baltimore County police, to find the rest of the burglars, who could be concentrated in Baltimore.
