- According to a recent study by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Old Dominion University, the dead zone of the Chesapeake Bay is shrinking. The dead zone, an oxygen-depleted zone that is deadly to fish, stretches from the middle of the bay near Baltimore to Mobjack Bay. Beth McGee, director of science and agriculture policy at Chesapeake Bay Foundation, said, "This year's results showing a 'better than average' dead zone is, in part, a reflection that our pollution reduction efforts are working." However, said McGee, this rating still means that much of the bay is "off-limits for aquatic life." (The Virginian-Pilot)
- The Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that the grace period for resolving outstanding video tolls will end on Nov. 30 at 11:59 p.m. According to the MTA, 1.3 million customers still need to pay their outstanding tolls after the nine-month civil penalty waiver grace period.
