- On Jan. 21, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore spoke at Union Bethel A. M.E. in nearby Randallstown. Moore spoke about his $63 billion budget plan which includes "historic investments" to support the attorney general's office and the public defender. Moore plans to work with law enforcement officials to address crime, including removing violent offenders from the streets and focusing on confiscating illegal guns. Moore said, "We are going to ensure that everybody, our children and our families, [has] a right to feel safe in their own communities, and feel safe in their own skin." Moore said he will invest in "supporting local law enforcement agencies, but also ensuring that we are not going to militarize our way to safety." (CBS News)
- According to a survey by the Blue Ribbon Commission on Ethics and Accountability, most Baltimore County employees consider county government an ethical place to work. Over 7,600 county employees, commissioners, and board members were surveyed. Baltimore County Police provided the most responses, followed by the health and fire departments. (Owings Mills Patch)
- Baltimore County Police honored Sergeant Mark Frank Parry, who died in the line of duty while paroling in nearby Towson. On Dec. 27, 2001, Parry's vehicle was struck by a drunk driver who fled the scene. The happily married father of three passed away from his injuries on Jan. 21, 2002 after serving with the Baltimore County Police Department for 16 years, the United States Army for two years, and the Army Reserves for six years. Parry's name is inscribed on a monument at Patriot Plaza in Towson. (Fox Baltimore)
