Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:
- A state bill, which would have created a commission to study the health effects of the BWI Marshall Airport on the surrounding community, failed to pass the General Assembly. BWI Marshall Airport is 8 miles from Catonsville. Ever since the 2015 Federal Aviation Administration’s Next Generation Air Transportation System was implemented, there have been complaints of airplane noise in the surrounding counties, including Baltimore County. The Next Generation's goal was to cut down on delays and carbon emissions, but to do so, the planes must fly closer to the ground which generates more noise in the surrounding neighborhoods. - Tick season is starting in Maryland, and people and pets can contract serious diseases from adult ticks. According to the annual pet parasite forecast from the Companion Animal Parasite Council, this year's tick season is expected to pose a higher risk to pets than in past years, especially in Maryland. Baltimore County already has a moderate-to-high risk level for tick-borne diseases in dogs. (Maryland Patch)
- On Saturday, Apr. 30, over 20 artists and artisans will sell their wares at Makers' Market from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., located at 2001 Frederick Road in Catonsville. Admission is free and the items for sale include art, apparel, jewelry, decor, health and beauty, and local food. There will also be live music and activities for kids. (Catonsville Patch)
