Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:
- Catonsville native Jane De Hitta, who had to pause her social work studies due to cancer treatment, received her bachelor's degree at UMBC on Wednesday. UMBC President Freeman A. Hrabowski III announced that Hitta will be one of the leaders who help guide adult UMBC undergraduates through student programs. (Baltimore Sun)
- On Thursday, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute announced a new $1.5 billion scholarship fund for early-career scientists will be named after the retiring University of Maryland Baltimore County president, Freeman Hrabowski III. Over the next 20 years, the Freeman Hrabowski Scholars Program will fund up to 150 diversity-focused, early-career scientists. (Baltimore Sun)
- Number 3 Catonsville High School varsity softball team played against Number 2 Sherwood High School in the Class 4A state softball semifinals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Catonsville lost 5 to 0, which ended their chance at a second straight state title. (Max Preps)
