Here are the top 3 stories today in Catonsville:

  1. Laura and Will McLennan, who live in Catonsville, were transferred to Johns Hopkins Children's Center hours before their child Eve was born. The doctors diagnosed Eve with critical aortic stenosis, "a narrowing of the aortic valve opening that restricts the blood flow from the left ventricle," and she underwent open-heart surgery at two weeks old. The surgery went well and Eve no longer needed to be medically sedated, finally waking up after being "asleep for the first month of her life." One year later, Laura says that Eve is "perfectly fine, active and growing" and "she's a little miracle." (The Hub at Johns Hopkins)
  2. There has been a recent string of violence involving juveniles in the Baltimore area, including the recent shooting at Catonsville High School. Dr. Tyrone Powers, a former FBI Special Agent, suggested that juveniles "need more parental intervention" and "learn from observations, participation, and demonstration." Dr. Drew Pate, Chief of Psychiatry at Lifebridge Health, believes the instability of the COVID-19 pandemic and the "24/7 barrage of negativity" on social media has increased juvenile violence. (ABC 6)
  3. As of yesterday, Feb. 22, Baltimore County reported a total of 130,211 positive COVID-19 cases. The county is still unable to update case data on its website due to technical issues. The state department of health reported a total of 998,888 confirmed cases in Maryland. (Catonsville Patch)
