Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:
- In Gov. Wes Moore's budget proposal for fiscal 2024, he committed funds for hiring 67 new employees for the understaffed Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), which regulates Maryland's drinking water and wastewater treatment. He committed $3.7 million and 43 new positions at MDE for the agency to clear a backlog of expired pollution discharge permits and to help decrease industrial pollution. He also committed funds for 24 new jobs focusing on the regulation of drinking water. Baltimore County and City officials and Maryland lawmakers recently announced legislation to create a task force to modernize the region's drinking water and wastewater facilities after an E-coli outbreak in the Baltimore area last year and "catastrophic failures" at two wastewater treatment facilities. - Jeremy Tate is the creator of the Classic Learning Test (CLT), a former college counselor at Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, and the parent of two students at Mount de Sales Academy. Tate was interviewed about the CLT, an alternative to the SAT or ACT that reflects a more "Christian learning." (CatholicVote org)

Poag, a fixture at Maryland racetracks, joined the Baltimore Police Department in 1964 and retired in 1985. The visitation and memorial services were held at the Candle Light Funeral Home in Catonsville on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3.
