Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:

  1. Shazia Shah, a Catonsville resident and candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates, reported to The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) that at least two of her campaign lawn signs were defaced. Her image, with her wearing a hijab or the Islamic headscarf, was cut out of the sign but the other candidate on the sign was not cut out. CAIR, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, condemned the alleged vandalism of a Maryland Muslim candidate's signs. Maryland CAIR Office Director Zainab Chaudry said, "It is important to have diverse representation of our elected officials and CAIR’s role is to help communities in safeguarding against discrimination and encouraging civic engagement at all levels." Anyone with information should contact Baltimore County police at 410-887-0872. (Council on American-Islamic Relations)
  2. Delaware shooting guard Jasmine Dickey, a graduate of Catonsville High School, was drafted into the WNBA on Monday night. Dickey was selected in the top 30 and will continue her basketball career at the pro level. She finished her University of Delaware career with 1,981 career points, 1,038 rebounds, and 48 double-doubles. (WMAR 2 News)
