New Yoga Studio Opening in Catonsville

Studio will open on Edmondson Avenue on June 6.

Two women who have been doing yoga for more than a decade are taking the next step in their practice: Opening a yoga studio together.

Alecia Flynn and Vicki Bannister are opening Rolling Brook Yoga, at 1715 Edmondson Avenue the week of June 6. For the first week, the studio is offering free yoga classes.

Flynn and Bannister, both Catonsville residents, found the location four months ago and started the renovation work with a contractor in May.

The location used to be a garage, but it has been completely transformed to include a studio, an office-retail space and a bathroom. They also have parking right in front of the building. The studio can fit up to 20 students in a class.

The two women have built a following in the last year or two by teaching out of their homes, so they are excited that the studio will allow them to expand to offer more classes to more people.

"There seems to be a desire and a need in Catonsville," Flynn said.

Classes are organized by levels, and different styles are taught. The studio will also have a Pilates class.

The classes will be taught in a very instructive way that will focus on proper alignment and care for one's individual body, Flynn said.

"Yoga can be very intimidating for people, but we try to make it user-friendly," she said.
