Here are the top three stories in Catonsville today:

  1. On Monday, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski introduced legislation to the Baltimore County Council to create a nine-member police accountability board. The board will have one civil member from each of the seven County Council districts and two at-large members. The board will receive complaints of police misconduct, work with law enforcement and the county government to improve policing, make recommendations on changes to police policy, appoint civilian members to charging committees and a trial board, and more. LeAnn Harrison of CASA, an immigrant advocacy organization, said, "We want to see a board that reflects those who are most impacted by police misconduct. So we want a board that represents the black and brown community." (Fox Baltimore)
  2. Oblate Sister Magdala Gilbert is the director of the Mother Mary Lange Guild, which promotes the sainthood of Mother Lange. Mother Mary Lange founded the Oblate Sisters of Providence, the first religious order for women of color, and St. Frances Academy, the first Catholic school for people of color. The motherhouse, located in Catonsville, has a child development center, a reading center, and a math center. Sister Magdala said canonization is important for Mother Lange right now because it "would be a catalyst to move people" to have hope for change. (Catholic Herald)
  3. The Catonsville High School girls lacrosse team, the Comets, won 13 to 10 against Arundel's Wildcats on Tuesday. Milena Stephen scored five goals, Casey Fisher scored four goals and had two assists, and Adele Jones scored three goals for Catonsville. (Baltimore Sun)
