Share Your Good News with Everyone

How you can post things to share with your neighbors.

It's been two weeks since I have written , because I was actually away on vacation. I had one last hurrah with winter, spending the week in Missoula, Montana with friends.

Needless to say this week was filled with catching up on lots of email and missed things. But many of you have asked me if I ever take vacation, so now you know the answer is yes!

I've talked about how this site is not only a place for news, but for things going on in the community.

Yesterday a big event was going on in Catonsville, which was a of the No. 8 Streetcar Path. We had promoted the event on the site, on Facebook and on Twitter.

What organizer Maureen Sweeney Smith did was post a to all the volunteers under the Announcements section of the site. Because it was relevant to the entire community, I put it out on the front page for several hours on Sunday.

This is something that I could have also posted, but it is somethiing you can do yourself. It's really easy. Just go to the Announcements section of the site, which is under the News tab. In black letters to the right, you'll see something that says, "Just married? New baby? Make honor roll?" Then in green it says "Announce it to everyone!"

You'll then be directed to a series of fields that you enter the information. You can also add your own photos.

In the old newspaper days, this section of the paper might have been community news. At many papers this section has been cut due to cost or space constraints. At Patch we still want to include that type of news, and the web is infinite! We have more than enough space for all your good news. So feel free to post away!
