Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:

  1. Violence in Maryland schools is increasing and parents and educators are concerned about the mental health of students. Social media is filled with videos of school fights and violence, which even escalated to gunfire at Catonsville High School in February. Dr. Justine Larson, a child psychiatrist at Sheppard Pratt, said "something like 25 percent of kids now [has] symptoms of depression and 20 percent [has] anxiety symptoms." Larson suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic and social media play a role in the increasing mental health problems, and schools need more mental health professionals. (WBAL TV Baltimore)
  2. The Catonsville High School boys' lacrosse team has its first game of the 2022 season today, Mar. 23, against Westminster. Coach KR Schultz said, "We have 15 guys in the class of 2022, and all play a significant role for us. They have been playing together for a long time." The coach hopes "to be able to compete at a high level in every county game." (Baltimore Sun)
