Here are the top three stories in Catonsville today:

  1. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) has announced its new president, Dr. Valerie Sheares Ashby. Ashby is replacing the president of 30 years, Freeman Hrabowski, as of Aug. 1. Ashby will be UMBC's first woman president. "It is an incredible honor to be asked to lead a university that has excelled in so many ways that are essential both nationally and to me personally — particularly in regards to foregrounding inclusive excellence," said Ashby.   2. The #8 Streetcar Path Mural was vandalized Friday evening with "racist and troubling" graffiti, according to Catonsville Rails to Trails (CRTT). The organization reports it is in the process of setting up security cameras, as well as discussing the issue with local police. In a Facebook post, CRTT asked the community to help support the camera installation by donating at crtt.org. (Catonsville Rails to Trails, Inc.)
