Mars Attacks! Celebrate 'War of the Worlds' 75th Radio Anniversary in Bowie

Woodstream Academy students will reenact Orson Wells' 'War of the Worlds' and the Bowie Branch Library Oct. 30.

The Martians are coming! The Martians are coming!

At last that's what scores of Americans thought 75 years ago on Halloween eve, as they listened to Orson Wells' read the science fiction classic, War of the Worlds.

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will mark the occasion with a reenactment of the broadcast, performed by students from Woodstream Academy. Curators from the National Capital Radio and Television Museum, also located in Bowie, will also be on hand to discuss early radio dramatizations and programming.

The reenactment will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Bowie Branch Library, located at 15210 Annapolis Rd. The event is free to the public.
