$32K Winning Lotto Ticket Claimed By Howard Co. Health Care Worker

The Columbia resident won a second time in three years playing the Maryland Lottery, this time netting more than $32K.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A woman who popped by a Wegmans in Columbia to grab ingredients for a Thursday night dinner decided to buy a lotto ticket from a vending machine. That last minute decision as she was walking out of the store's doors led to her winning the lotto a second time in her life.

The Columbia resident recently won $32,694 playing Fast Play Slingo. She also won $25,000 playing Pick 5 back in 2022.

The health care worker waited until the following day and took her ticket to a convenience store after she received a message while scanning it with her app that she needed to file a claim at lottery headquarters. A convenience store employee scanned the ticket and also told her she had to claim the prize at lottery headquarters.

“I still wasn’t sure how much it was for, even though it said $32,693 on the front” she said. “I bought another Slingo game and the jackpot was reset and I thought, ‘Is this me, could it be me?’”

Then she read a news report saying a $32,694 winning Fast Play Slingo progressive jackpot ticket had been purchased at the Wegmans at 8855 McGaw Road in Columbia.

“I got really nervous and excited because I knew it was me, it has to be me,” she said.

The Columbia resident plans to use her winnings for dental work, to buy a new phone and to pad her savings. Wegmans shares in the wealth, as the store receives a $326.94 bonus for making the sale.
