Firefighters Battle Blaze Inside Chimney That Spread To Home's Roof

Howard County firefighters fought a blaze that sparked inside the chimney of a Columbia home. No injuries were reported.

COLUMBIA, MD — Saturday late afternoon, a fire started in the chimney of a Columbia home.

Around 5 p.m. Oct. 25, Howard County firefighters were dispatched to a home located in the 9100 block of Brunners Run Court in Columbia. Those who were first on the scene reported seeing flames shooting through the roof. They quickly gained control of the fire and extinguished it, the fire department reported.

The only resident at home had evacuated and was outside when firefighters arrive. A cat was rescued by Howard County firefighters from the second floor of the home. No injuries to civilians or emergency first responders were reported, the fire department stated.

The Maryland State Office of the Fire Marshal will investigate the origin of the fire, the county fire department shared.
