Oppressive Heat To Bake Maryland Later This Week: NWS
Soaring temperatures in Maryland will flirt with 100 degrees later this week, the National Weather Service's forecast said.

MARYLAND — After a weekend with high temperatures hovering around 80 degrees thanks to a cold front moving through, get ready for temperatures to soar later this week across Maryland.
The region's second heat wave before summer officially starts June 20 will see temperatures reach into the 90s starting Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Friday's high will flirt with 100 degrees.
"Behind an earlier cold front, today's high temperatures largely stay in the mid 70s to low 80s. This comes with some isolated showers & t'storms as a disturbance in the upper atmosphere pushes through. Expect a return of summer weather late in the week," the weather service said in a tweet Monday morning.

Parts of the Northeast may have their first heat wave of the summer during the week of June 17," AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said.
The heat may set up first over the northern tier of the Northeast before expanding southward. The National Weather Service defines a heat wave as abnormally hot weather, with or without high humidity, generally lasting more than two days, AccuWeather said. In the Northeast, the 90-degree mark is the unofficial threshold for hot weather in most locations.
