Person Suffers Serious Burns, Firefighter Treated For Exhaustion In Building Blaze

A fire broke out at a property in the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road of Jessup Wednesday night. A firefighter and another person were hurt.

JESSUP, MD — A person sustained serious burn injuries Wednesday night after a fire broke out at a two-story structure located in the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road in Jessup.

Firefighters with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were called to the property around 8 p.m. to find the structure that used to be a home but is now used by a business, engulfed in flames. Crews worked to gain control of the fire and provide medical care to a person who was seriously burned until that individual could be transported to the hospital for treatment, according to the fire department.

A firefighter also was taken to the hospital after being evaluated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour, the fire department stated.

Anne Arundel and Baltimore County fire departments, as well as Fort Meade, firefighters provided mutual aid. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Maryland State Office of the Fire Marshal.
